The South East Region

The South East Region of IrelandThe sunny South East? Well maybe not all the time but there's plenty to see and do regardless of the weather: from mediaeval Kilkenny City to the historic Rock Of Cashel; seaside towns and fishing ports; Thurles, birthplace of the Rock of CashelGAA and Enniscorthy, home to the Fleadh Cheoil. Five important river systems - the Barrow, Blackwater, Nore, Slaney and Suir, together with their tributaries - crisscross the countryside, offering fishing, river-walks and boating holidays. So it must rain sometimes to keep the rivers flowing!

The South East of Ireland is a colourful patchwork of fertile valleys and plains, carved from an ancient landscape known down through the centuries to invaders and traders, explorers and missionaries. The region is rich in historical remains - castles and abbeys, fortresses and settlements - that recall the passage of the Celts, Vikings, Normans and Anglo-Saxons.
